Friend of God

I am a friend of God! I centered my mind on Him that evening that I was struggling to fall asleep.

I struggled against the bad memories that crept into my mind. His whisper to me “Talk to me,” left me speechless! I fell silent and felt Him smile. He spoke. “You can talk to me.” I submitted my mind to Him. “Give your thoughts to me. I’ll make your mind be at ease.”

Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5 KJV

We must realize how important this is. If a thought make us feel bad, then obviously they are not from God.

“Give your thought attention to Me.” The Holy Spirit was adamant. I willingly focused on Him, allowing Him to speak. Falling silent and hearing God is a wonderful experience and something we must train ourselves to do everyday. However, He wants us to converse with Him as well. He said it again. “Talk to Me.”

I had to think about that. Okay, should I rise up out of the comfortable position I was laying in beside my husband and fall prostate on the floor? Should I speak with my hands folded prayerfully under my chin? Should I address Him as Thee and Thou, speaking the King James Bible’s language? Should I really concentrate and choose my words carefully, as if speaking to royalty? Because in a way I was. And I heard Him chuckle. Yes, he chuckled.

“My child, I’m your best friend. You can talk to me as if I were sitting across the couch from you. Say what you would say to your friends. Talk to Me, as you are. It’s what I want.” Me? A friend of God!!!

Oh, the glorious conversation! And one led to another. I asked Him things, boldly, and He showed me. He talked to me. Admittedly, at first I had to concentrate, to get the feeling that He was really there. Then, like honey flowing down stream, it became a sweet and wonderful conversation. The more I allow myself to talk to Him, the easier it gets. I am a friend of God! It has to be learned. It has to be developed. And it is real, very real.

If you ever doubt yourself about having a conversation with Him, ask yourself these questions. Do His words ring true? Does it benefit me spiritually? Is it good for everyone? And then, prove it. Look it up in the Bible. The Bible has everything we need to survive and live right. Everything that the Holy Spirit says will be proved over and over in the Bible. Test it, prove it. You will always find that what the Holy Spirit says is true.

And keep it up. Friendships have to be nurtured. Being a friend of God requires nurturing. Whenever you have a still moment, talk to Him. Some people wake up early in the morning and talk to Him. Some talk in the shower. Some at night while nodding off. Whenever you find the still time, talk to Him. The benefits are glorious blessings and revelations. And remember, the more you cultivate it, the easier it gets. Soon, I’m convinced; you can talk to Him even during a busy, noisy time. How marvelous to know that we can talk to Him face to face!

This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn't go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person's failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to him.
John 3:16 (The Message Bible)

Psalm 91

1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

2 I will say [b] of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust."

3 Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare and from the deadly pestilence.

4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

5 You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day,

6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.

7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.

8 You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.

9 If you make the Most High your dwelling— even the LORD, who is my refuge-

10 then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent.

11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;

12 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.

13 You will tread upon the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

14 "Because he loves me," says the LORD, "I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.

15 He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.

16 With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation."
